Elaine M. Apperson , MD, FAAP

Principal Investigator

Dr. Elaine Apperson is currently the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at the Prisma Children’s Hospital Upstate. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville. She graduated from Duke with a BA and then attended the Medical University of South Carolina.  She completed her residency for general pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and her pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Harvard Medical School, with clinical and research work at both Massachusetts General Hospital and the Joslin Diabetes Center. She stayed on as a faculty member at Harvard and then returned south as a faculty member at UAB prior to coming to Greenville. She oversees a dynamic, multidisciplinary diabetes program and has been involved with TrialNet for several years. She currently serves as the Co-Chair for the Public Policy Committee for the Pediatric Endocrine Society and will start her term on the Executive Committee for Endocrinology for the American Academy of Pediatrics in November 2025.
