Tips & Tricks
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR A SUCCESSFUL BLOOD SAMPLE COLLECTION:
![]() | Eat and drink normally the day before and the day of your blood collection. If it's hot outside, be sure to drink plenty of water.
![]() | Warm up your hand by running it under warm water or use a warm compress or towel.
![]() | Gently massage the hand and fingers to increase blood flow. Or, rotate your arm in a big circle or do jumping jacks for a minute or two.
![]() | Be sure to sit comfortably, as sometimes people feel light headed or faint, with your arm relaxed and your hand dangling below hip level until you are ready to complete the fingerstick.
![]() | To maintain good blood flow, hold the arm downward and massage the hand; but don't press too hard around the fingerstick site, as this could contaminate the sample. You don't need to fill the whole tube, just fill between the red lines. |
